Colonel Moundélé-Ngollo Takes Command of ACMIL Academy

by Lucien Mabiala

A new figure now leads one of Congo-Brazzaville’s key military training institutions. Colonel Bienvenu Désiré Moundélé-Ngollo was formally installed as commander of the Marien-Ngouabi Military Academy, known as ACMIL, during a handover ceremony in Brazzaville.

The event took place on 21 February at the academy’s grounds. It followed the established protocol of the Congolese Armed Forces, marking a routine but symbolically weighty moment in the institution’s command structure.

A Formal Handover in Brazzaville

The ceremony unfolded in the presence of Brigadier General Charles Victoire Batandi, who commands the schools of the Congolese Armed Forces (FAC). His attendance underscored the institutional gravity of the transition at one of the country’s premier officer-training centres.

Proceedings included the reading of the administrative act confirming the appointment. The traditional rites of investiture and the formal assumption of command then followed, sealing Colonel Moundélé-Ngollo’s authority over the academy.

In his first remarks as commander, the colonel offered a measured assessment of the responsibility now resting on his shoulders. “I am fully aware of the enormous task to be accomplished here,” he said, framing his appointment in terms of duty rather than triumph.

He added a note of personal resolve to the occasion. “I dare hope not to fail, or at least not to disappoint the hierarchy that has placed all its confidence in my person,” he told those gathered, acknowledging the expectations attached to the post.

A Career Shaped by Senior Military Training

The new commander brings a substantial record of advanced military education to the role. He completed senior military studies at the International War College in Cameroon during 2017 and 2018, deepening his command-level expertise.

Earlier, between 2014 and 2015, he attended a staff officers’ course in Libreville, Gabon. Together these programmes reflect the cross-border training pathways that shape senior officers across the broader Central African region.

His service within ACMIL itself has been continuous and varied. He has held the post of director of preparatory courses, and since 2018 he served as head of the research division and director of initial training at the academy.

That internal trajectory means his appointment is less an arrival than an elevation. Having helped shape the academy’s training programmes from within, he assumes its top command with direct knowledge of its workings and its cadets.

Honours Marking Years of Service

Colonel Moundélé-Ngollo’s career has not gone unrecognised by the Congolese state. In June 2022 he was named a knight in the Congolese Order of Merit, a distinction reserved for sustained and notable service to the institution and the nation.

His decorations also include the commemorative medal marking the 50th anniversary of the FAC and the gendarmerie, awarded in 2011. The honour ties his personal record to a wider milestone in the history of the country’s armed forces.

Such appointments form part of the regular rotation within the military hierarchy of Congo-Brazzaville. While administrative in nature, they shape the leadership of institutions tasked with forming the officers who will, in turn, command the country’s forces in the years ahead.
