Congo Majority Parties Rally Behind Sassou-Nguesso Bid

by Samuel Mvoumbe

A Unified Front Ahead of March 2026

The parties of the presidential majority have closed ranks in Brazzaville. In a joint declaration, they pledged their support to a single candidacy for the March 2026 presidential election, naming Denis Sassou-Nguesso as the figure they intend to carry to the ballot.

One Candidate, One Signature

The gesture was deliberately collective. Rather than advancing separate platforms, the formations of the majority chose to put their names to a common text, signaling an agreement to converge behind one contender for the upcoming vote in the Republic of the Congo.

Reading the Move

Signing a shared declaration in the capital frames the coming campaign as a question of cohesion within the majority. By committing early to a sole candidacy, the parties present an image of discipline as the country looks toward the March 2026 election (ACI).
